OFFICE MANAGER
AMAR SURVEYS LTD.
Calgary, Canada
At the age of 20, I was hired by Amar Surveys, a small but growing oilfield survey company in Calgary, Canada. My initial tasks included searching plans at the Land Titles Office, compiling information packages for field crews, and printing and delivering completed plans of survey to clients.
The company grew steadily, and me with it, and by 1994 I was the office manager, charged with co-ordinating nine 2-person survey crews and roughly 10 office support staff. I was the primary point of contact for clients, and was directly responsible for the accuracy of all output to clients.
The job was challenging and lucrative; however, it was less than fulfilling creatively. It was among the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but after 11 years I left to pursue a degree in Industrial Design.
